Essential reference material

Being a nurse practitioner practicing in pediatrics, I refer to this little gem often. I know this is said often in product reviews, but this book is the real deal. It TRULY is the only resource of its kind. No other reference touches on the common problems you actually see in the clinic day in and day out. Burns, friction blisters, abscesses, etc; it's all here. Love the "Discussion" section which trails each problem. Push the giant text books you used in school (the books that are almost never a help in actual practice except for rare/infrequent problems) to the back of the shelf and keep this one at the edge of your desk...you'll be reaching for it often. Two thumbs up!

Great book for any acute care setting.

I am a Doctor is a busy Urgent Care clinic. Most of the topics were not new for me but I found several great suggestions and ideas that I'd never considered before. It's great to get a refresher of the basics and a new perspective on treating acute illness or injuries. I've already used several practical suggestions from the book--I'm always glad to have new pearls of wisdom and this book is loaded with them.
The book is very straight-forward and easy to read. And, like many others have stated before, having the "what to do" and "what not to do" approach makes quick referencing so easy while patients are still in the clinic.
I'd highly recommend this book, it's definitely worth the cost and a must for any acute care medical setting.

Remote Medical Resource

Minor Emergences is making the rounds as the resource to have in the remote field. I'm a medic that works in isolated camps or offshore vessels with the closest MD available only via phone or email. Sometimes evacuating a patient to a higher level of care is not an easy thing to do or even a possibility. Being able to take care of minor problems and recognizing when you cannot is always a consideration. While no book or manual could possibly take the place of adequate training it sure is nice to have such a wealth of knowledge close at hand.
Minor Emergencies - Splinters to Fractures is more than worth having to pack its weight around and has a permanent place in my very limited traveling library.
